Open Your NRE/NRO Account from Abroad

How We Make

How We Make This Easier — At No Cost to You

We don’t charge NRIs for account opening assistance. Here’s what we do:

Help You Pick the Right Bank

Not every bank suits every NRI. Some have smoother video KYC, some have better overseas networks, some handle US/Canada FATCA more efficiently. We point you to the one that fits.

Give You a Clear Document Checklist

Based on your country and chosen bank, we tell you exactly what's needed — including attestation requirements — so nothing gets rejected or delayed.

Connect You Directly

Apply through the bank's NRI portal (we provide the direct link) or leave your details with us and we connect you with the bank's NRI desk for faster processing.

NRE vs NRO — Which Do You Need?

Two different accounts for two different purposes. Here’s how they compare:
Most NRIs need both. NRE for sending money from abroad and making investments. NRO for collecting income that originates in India. All four banks above let you open both simultaneously.

Documents

Documents You'll Need

The core documents are standardised across banks. Here’s your checklist:

Valid Indian passport

Pages showing name, photograph, date of birth, signature, issue and expiry dates.

Valid visa or residency proof

Work visa, residence permit, employment letter, or equivalent.

Overseas address proof

Utility bill (within 3 months), bank statement, tenancy agreement, or government-issued foreign ID (Emirates ID, NRIC, US state ID, UK residence permit).

PAN card

Required for all NRI accounts. Don't have one? You can apply online through NSDL from anywhere.

Passport-size photographs

Typically 2–4, depending on the bank.

FATCA/CRS self-declaration

Declaring your country of tax residence and tax identification number (SSN, SIN, TFN, UTR, etc.).

Attestation note: If you’re not visiting a bank branch in India, documents typically need attestation by an Indian Embassy/Consulate, a licensed notary public, or an overseas bank official. The requirement varies by bank — reach out to us and we’ll tell you exactly what’s needed for your bank and country combination.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to what NRIs ask most about account opening
No. All four banks listed above allow fully remote account opening — through video KYC, online applications, or courier-based submissions. You don’t need to be in India.
Yes, and we recommend it. Having both at the same bank simplifies fund transfers between them and makes digital banking management much easier.
With video KYC, accounts are typically activated within 3–7 working days. Courier-based applications take 2–4 weeks. The most common delay is incorrect or incomplete documentation — which is exactly what our review process prevents.
If you’ve become an NRI, you must convert your resident savings account to an NRO account under FEMA regulations. You cannot continue operating a resident account. All four banks handle this conversion — inform them about your change of status when opening your new NRI accounts.
No. Our guidance — including bank recommendation, document checklist, and connecting you with the bank — is completely free for NRIs. We’re here to make the process smoother, not to add a cost to it.
